Search Engine Optimization

You’ve found the local authority on SEO

Lots of websites drone on about what search engine optimization is, why it’s important and how they’ll help boost your rankings… but they won’t tell you how. Do you know why? Because they don’t know. But let’s get the definition out of the way: Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of increasing the quality and quantity of traffic to your website through non-paid (organic) search engine results. Google uses dozens (if not hundreds) of factors to decide where your site should rank in search but these are the most important, in order:

Accessibility — Can Google find, read and understand your website? You don’t need to “submit your website to search engines.” That’s a lie. Google accounts for more than 85% of the market share and Google will find your website all by itself. You do need to make sure your website loads quickly, that readable words are used instead of wording embedded in imagery, and that the information is structured in a logical, intuitive hierarchy that makes sense to both humans and the Googlebot. This is where content strategy and development comes in.

Copy — Is your copy well-written and grammatically correct? Does it answer the searcher’s query? The words contained on your website will make all the difference in converting visitors into customers. Google understands this and gives heavier weight to websites that do an effective job of delivering informative, concise communication. Don’t give the task of copywriting to an agency who’s own website is grammatically incorrect, poorly-written and full of jargon. Instead, take advantage of my professional copywriting experience.

User experience — Is your website well-organized, easy to use and mobile-friendly? Offering an intuitive user experience will help visitors find answers to their questions quickly. Whatever information this happens to be – a service page, a particular product, contact info – Google is able to recognize when users take action. They they add to cart, click through to a social media account, submit a form? Or did they bounce around and ultimately abandon your website in favour of a similar industry one?

Share-worthiness — Is your content helpful and informative? Is it worth sharing in social media? Does it inspire users to hit that share button and pass the links to information, products and services along by text, email or direct message?

Metadata — Are your title and description tags concise and compelling?

Don’t be fooled by jargon. Most developers and agencies that offer SEO services know less about it than what you’ve just read above. There’s a reason you found my site ranked above the prominent local agency sites. I’ve been helping businesses achieve top-3, page #1 rankings for almost a decade. I’m a professional copy writer and editor, I’ve been managing web development projects since 2009 and I have a long list of SEO success stories and references. Google wants people to keep using its products, and if your content and the metadata that leads them to your site is helpful and answers solves their problems, you’ll be rewarded with higher and higher rankings.
